Bathurst FP3: Haase’s Audi leads top-14 covered by 0.8s

> Result: FP3

Just 0.8s covered the top-14 cars in FP3 earlier today at Bathurst where Christopher Haase’s Audi set the fastest time of the weekend so far.

The stop-start nature of the morning’s first two sessions was replaced by just one minor red flag period during 60 minutes of running, which resulted in several entries setting more representative times.

Case in point was the #2 Audi Sport Team Valvoline entry shared by Chris Mies, Markus Winkelhock and Haase which lapped a second quicker than it had in the morning. Indeed, Haase’s best of 2m04.5139s was also 0.5s faster than the weekend’s previous benchmark and 0.2143s quicker than Andy Soucek’s M-Sport Bentley, which finished second in FP3.

Triple Eight’s Vodafone-backed Mercedes-AMG ended FP2 in the garage following contact but returned to post the third fastest time courtesy of Jamie Whincup. The Supercars legend was only a fraction shy of Soucek and an even smaller margin – 0.0104s – quicker than the GruppeM Mercedes-AMG that paced this morning’s session.

Intercontinental GT Challenge’s other full-season entries – Ferrari, BMW, Nissan and Porsche – also finished within a second of the ultimate pace.

Friday’s fourth and final practice session begins at 15:15 this afternoon.
