> 2016 and ’17 champions join Foster aboard #IntGTC-nominated Ferrari
Super GT stars Heikki Kovalainen and Nick Cassidy will join HubAuto Corsa’s Ferrari line-up at the Suzuka 10 Hours on August 23-25.
The pair, who won Japan’s premier GT title in 2016 and 2017, respectively, partner Nick Foster in the same Ferrari that won Intercontinental GT Challenge’s second round of the season at Laguna Seca in March.
Former grand prix-winner Kovalainen moved to Japan after his Formula 1 career came to an end in 2013. He won Super GT’s premier GT500 title three years later and has remained a Lexus factory driver ever since.
It’s believed this will be Kovalainen’s first race in a Ferrari since 2004’s Race Of Champions where he beat, amongst others, Michael Schumacher en route to the title.
Cassidy, meanwhile, was part of HubAuto’s Total 24 Hours of Spa line-up. However, the car retired before he was able to complete a lap. The Kiwi has enjoyed great success in Japan where he finished runner-up in both Super GT and Super Formula last season.
Technical Director, Phillip Di Fazio said: “This is a major coup for the HubAuto team. I’ve lots of experience working alongside Heikki and Nick. We have a strong driver line-up with pedigree and experience. Coupled with a good car we are aiming for nothing less than a win.”
Indeed, HubAuto and Foster stunned many in the paddock last season by taking pole position at Suzuka on their Intercontinental GT Challenge debuts.
