SunEnergy1 by SPS’s Mercedes-AMG set the pace once again in Thursday’s second two-hour test session ahead of this weekend’s Kyalami 9 Hour.
Jules Gounon lowered his morning benchmark by six tenths to top the afternoon running from GruppeM Racing’s Mercedes-AMG and Grove Racing’s Porsche.
The French-Andorran saved his best until four minutes remaining when a 1m42.578s comfortably beat long-time leaders GruppeM by 0.365s.
The Hong Kong squad led early in the session but were pushed back to third by WRT and then Grove with 40 minutes left on the clock.
The Mercedes-AMG then hit back with two new fastest times in short order and looked destined to finish the test on top until Gounon asserted his authority.
WRT’s #32 BMW narrowly held fourth from Tresor Attempto’s #66 Audi, while SPS’s Mercedes-AMG finished a further four thousandths behind.
Earlier disruption to the timetable means Thursday’s night practice session will now take place 15 minutes later than scheduled at 18:55 SAST (GMT +2).
