Sturm and Car Collection top testing as pre-event prep concludes at Gulf 12 Hours

Results: Test 1 | Test 2 | Test 3 | Test 4

Fastest time in the fourth and final session saw Car Collection’s #21 Porsche top the charts in testing ahead of this weekend’s Lenovo Gulf 12 Hours.

Joel Sturm belied the entry’s Am status by going quickest in the first and last sessions, both of which were held under the cover of darkness across two days at Yas Marina.

But it was this evening’s effort – 1m52.172s – that helped the 911 GT3 R earn testing bragging rights over Matteo Cairoli and Herberth’s similar machine – as well as best placed Intercontinental GT Challenge entry – by just 0.090s.

The #59 Garage 59 McLaren driven by Oliver Goethe was third overall after dipping below Grove Racing’s erstwhile fastest time from test #3, which was held in warmer conditions earlier this afternoon.

With three Pro cars at its disposal, it was perhaps surprising to see Pro-Am contenders SunEnergy1 upholding Mercedes-AMG’s honours in fifth overall, even if it was factory driver Philip Ellis who set the time this evening.

The fastest Pro entry across the four sessions was WRT’s #46 BMW, which – with Dries Vanthoor at the wheel – finished fifth this evening and sixth in the combined times on a 1m52.615s.

Expect the five Pro cars entered by WRT, 2 Seas Motorsport and GruppeM to feature far more prominently on Saturday when two official practice sessions precede the four-part qualifying session.
