#Indy8H: Guven and GMG top tight Free Practice session

> Result: Free Practice

GMG Racing set the Free Practice pace this evening at Indianapolis where IGTC championship leader Ayhancan Guven pipped fellow Porsche driver Bastian Buus to top spot.

The Turk’s 1m23.856s was just 0.039s faster than EBM’s best and less than a second quicker than the car that finished 21st. The remarkably competitive session was also underlined by three tenths covering the first 10.

The breadth of factory drivers up and down the field can partly explain that and also helped Pro-Am entries lock out the top five – a result that is unlikely to be repeated on Saturday. Nick Yelloly set third fastest time in Flying Lizards’ BMW, Herberth’s Patric Niederhauser finished fourth, and the 75 Express Mercedes-AMG was fifth.

By contrast, IGTC’s Pro entries had a quiet evening. The class’ best representative was the Random Vandals Racing BMW driven by Conor De Phillippi which took sixth, while Maro Engel’s factory GruppeM machine finished eighth – one place behind Mercedes-AMG customer Triple Eight JMR.

Two BMWs completed the top 10, Robby Foley’s Turner M4 edging out Sheldon van der Linde in the first of WRT’s two M4s.

The second, which only arrived just after lunch today following logistical delays, had a predictably steady session en route to 20th.

Track action continues on Friday with Pre-Qualifying, Qualifying and Pole Shootout.
