> Result: Free Practice
Team WRT’s BMWs topped the times in Indianapolis 8 Hour Presented by AWS Free Practice this evening, although only nine of the 22 cars completed a lap on a soggy night at the Speedway.
Charles Weerts set a best of 1m33.864s to end the day 0.207s faster than the sister M4 after Thursday’s earlier Indy 8 Hour session – the Bronze Test – was washed out.
The afternoon’s heavy rain had ceased when the 90-minute session began, but conditions remained treacherous throughout and worsened when the drizzle returned.
As such, the majority of teams spent this evening conducting systems checks rather than any meaningful running. Conditions are expected to improve significantly tomorrow in time for Pre-Qualifying, Qualifying and Pole Shootout, while Sunday’s race is also set to be dry.
The sole Honda (Racers Edge Motorsport) finished third overall in the hands of Mario Farnbacher who was half-a-second down on Weerts’ time, while Jake Walker (ST Racing) made it three BMWs in the top four.
Pre-Qualifying begins at 11:25 EDT tomorrow.
